I need me some Fannie and Mimi just won't do.
would love to find out the sample source for fannie likes 2 dance.. anyone got anything?
Was looking for that too...It's himThat B side track came to Sanders while he was testing out his vocal range. "I ended up coming up with that kind of androgynous, falsetto thing that's on that record," he says. "The words just kind of came out as I was just messing around, so what you hear is the first verse or whatever is just what I just literally came up with just messing around with in one take." At the time, Sanders was dating a woman nicknamed Fannie, which is where the name in the song and its title came from. Fannie had a daughter named Christabel, and Sanders was so fond of her he decided to call the label he made to release the 2000 EP Christabel Records.https://www.chicagoreader.com/Bleader/archives/2015/05/05/how-merles-2000-ep-became-a-cult-house-hit
This record came out 4 years before that Alicia song.
Arabella V.
i'm pretty sure the sample is Alicia Keys " Feeling You, Feeling Me"
More Fannie please... a lot... a lot... a lot !
I just stopped listening to the old version altogether. Yeah, it's better, the vocals are better, the intro is longer (why the hell did they make the intro shorter? harder to mix now) but I deleted my file of it, I only listen to the new version on vinyl I have, and slowly I'm forgetting the old version. I'm forcing myself to like the new one and to my surprise it's working... just glad to have it. No point complaining really
Just leaving a comment here to remind you for all of eternity that the original is by far the best, and frankly, the new version is terrible.
Unbelievably strong. Can anyone let me know if this is actually getting a repress?
Ace. Great news - nice one for getting back to me, appreciate it!
Do you mean the original pressing or the Stripped & Chewed reissue version with Mimi vs Fannie? The S&C version will absolutely be available again in the next couple months, but as far as I know there are no plans currently to reissue the original as-is.
FWIW i like the new vocals and the cleaner mix.
new vocal got wack juice all over it smell me goonie goo goo
Mimi and fannie are both really good. Low fi sound of mimi or the crisp sound of fannie they are both really swinging. If u grown up with mimi it is hard to leave the nostalgia glassess.
Just incase anyone reads that and gets confused: that's the wrong way round there man- Fannie is the original, Mimi the new version. Really enjoying the new vocal!
100% real talk...the new vocals are terrible and completely ruin fannie likes to dance. on the other hand the previously unreleased "beautiful" is nice. lesson here is dope lo fi music is often just a moment in time...trying to go back can rob it of its magic.
Couldn't agree more .
I actually prefer the new ones. The generation gap I suppose ;)
The new vocals just don't do it for me. Such a missed opportunity here :/
Totally agree! I think the off-kilter quality of the vocals in the original version played an important part in its unique character...
bring back Fannie :(
That mix is indeed better than the new one
Thats great
quando repress? plsss
PLEASE repress this soooon !
coming in 2015 ;)
This is fucking gold! Repress this gem <3
Where do you have the information from pls?
coming in 2015 ;)
Awesome record... 4 Funky House tracks oozing individuality and quality though they are hard to fit into a dj set. Some might find it easier than me...(",)...BUT!! The quality contained within each track is undeniable. The B-side could contend as the best side of all time!!FannieLikes2Dance is a lesson/assignment in sparse elements within the funky house sphere. Could have been made only by a KDJ/TP collaboration ca. '96 but we didn't need that 'cause Merle just did it. "My name is Fannie and i like 2 dance a lot". Played it yesterday @ Kaffibarinn in Reykjavik and people couldn't help but move... "Gonna get you on the floor and i'll make it real hot"My favourite though has to be ForeverYours. A Bouncin', Pumpin', Bumpin', Rollin', Funkin' kind-of-a masterpiece. Non Committing vocals over the funkiest of beats and a rollin' disco bassline. It just screams in a very subtle way.I have 2 copies of this 12" acquired as old new stock. It's apparent that this is a Chicago private press. Sound level is low and quality of mix/master is something to turn the temporary club dj away. But i'll keep playing this 12" until i retire
