Supraphon Release Information

An anniversary compilation made by Michael Kocáb, a superlative musician of a wide stylistic range, now celebrating his sixtieth birthday! The album, comprising almost fifty recordings dating from 1980 to 2014, is his pop-music curriculum vitae.

The first disc is rock’n’roll, with a major part formed by Kocáb’s pieces created in collaboration with Michal Pavlíček, Vilém Čok, Jiří Hrubeš, Klaudio Kryšpín and others within the legendary band Pražský výběr. Four tracks are from the continuation of the Výběr Story II, with the final track, Warning, serving as an example of the prog rock union with Messrs Proudfoot, Sheehan and Donati and showing undoubted international ambitions.

The second disc presents Kocáb’s chanson creations, songs from Petr Hapka’s and Michal Horáček’s projects, as well as his own compositions, written for Pražský Výběr and the solo album. Kocáb also sings alongside Bára Basiková, Josef Kemr, Lucie Vondráčková, Zlata Kinská and Dan Bárta.

The third CD features his compositional, instrumental, arrangement and production work for Martha Elefteriadu, Eva Olmerová, Jiří Korn, as well as his daughter Natálie, and more duets, with Lucie Bílá, Petr Janda and Petr Kolář. The kaleidoscope is rounded off by an extract from the performance of Odysseus, coupling Homer’s subject with Kocáb’s near-classical music, Horáček’s lyrics and the singers Magdaléna Hajóssyová and Peter Dvorský.

Michael Kocáb: 35 years of splendid music spanning a wide range of genres!
