Eva were quite good at compiling themed compilations. Their regional series were great at the time they came out (80s) and still hold up today. They also presented their selections in decent sound quality. (Sorry Pebbles... you lost out in the fidelity battle to a bunch of Europeans (Line Records' Mindrocker series was good too).

This 'Finest Hours' collection is a strange beast. Maybe Eva just had a bunch of great tracks that they couldn't fit onto any of their other comps. Maybe they really are the 'finest hours', I don't know.

Putting both sides of the 45s onto the record is both a good thing and a bad thing. Garage punk singles are notorious for having a 'plug' side (usually a ballad or soft rock thing) that the radio stations could play. On the other side you got the gnarly fuzz monster which the band dug and which went down well on stage but maybe wasn't playlist fodder.
On the other hand - it's nice to have the whole 45 fully documented... so the jury's out at the moment.

Anyway - you do a get a whole load of riches including TC Atlantic's wild Faces which is surely top 10 in any psychedelic/garage punk crossover chart. Mourning Reign, Sands and Mystic Tide work some magic too.
In short - if you found this for under a tenner you would be doing well.
