Alien
Ex-Panasonic member Ilpo Vaisanen and Dirk Dresselhaus have been exploring the non-linear, abstract side of the electronic mixture with other sonic sources (cellos and such provided by part-time member Hildur Guonadottir, guitars & percussion by Oren Ambarchi) such as live (and processed) field recordings, under the band name of Angel for a short while now, helping to create the obvious distance left from Ilpo's ex-high-profile band association.

Long gone are those stripped but potently powerful bare rhythmic kicks and thumps of Panasonic's more energetic beat-oriented pieces, as Angel prefers to explore the meditative and self-evolving soundscapes generated by the ambience and textures of the electronic tones and pulses at hand, often crafting a veritable soundtrack of sorts which feels more as though the sounds are allowed free range to their unknown destinations, the humans offering but subtle interaction to the aural sensibilities of the music. Dirk and Ilpo create rich and full drone-oriented morcels which never feel forced nor overly extroverted, although some pieces from "26000", such as the opener "Before The Rush" do have elements of the inherent chaos of noise exploding where metallic electronics would usually creep in more subtlely.

"26000" offers some familiar ground which previouos Angel recordings have explored, but also keeps the listener on their toes and at bay, by effectively continuing to push the self-imposed boundaries, such as on the piece "Dark Matter Leak" which can only be described as abstract chaos contained through human interference, and "In" which is obviously a home-made live-percussive fun romp that deffies the usual labels and constraints of the electronic genres.

If your bag includes non-conventional abstract drone-based but not limited to such electronic experimentalism, then perhaps giving Angel's "26000" a spin or two will be quite the sonic journey you are looking for. It is another welcomed addition to my own personnal collection!
