Another good Album by AVB. This is release includes a nice selection of musics that will take you to the future, "Mirage" is a perfect soundtrack for a Sci-fi story, and i love listen to this Album while reading Sci-fi books, also most of the musics are strong enough to make you dance.this Album results in a fine release despite some tracks such as "Feels so good", "Drowing" that sound comercial and corrupts some of the coherence in this Album. And as usual i never enjoyed much the use of guitar sounds that Armin adds to his style, guitars and electronic music were never in my opinion a good match, neverthless i love Armin Van Buuren productions.

Armin returns to his trance roots, and brings progressive trance back into the mainstream with this album. Unfortunately, the "mainstream" doesn't quite have the patience progressive trance requires, so the tracks ended up compromising between progression and pop and came out a little awry. There are some gems, I personally love 2 (Mirage), 3 (The Light Between Us), 6 (Full Focus), 7 (Take a Moment), and 13 (Those Silent Hearts). The rest of the tunes are kind of growing on me, only slowly. But that is the nature of progressive trance... it grows. Its just unfortunate that the trancescape some songs create gets ruined by the poppiness. 4/5

How long will it take for people until they know armin is not making his tracks himself ? I will talk now about the album as if it's a good album which certainly is not true (just carry on with me): 1.(imagine) had about 7 tracks that was co-produced with Benno of (Rank 1) which i think makes the world's no.1 looks like a lazy producer, but that wasn't enough. on (mirage) Benno co-produced all the album with armin... god!!!! what a sh** producer!! he seems not to be able to make anything himself. 2.On (imagine) armin collaborated with Roger shah and Sean tyas. on (mirage) he collaborated with Ferry corsten, josh gabriel. notice that names of collaborating producers are getting higher. 3.His brother is always out of picture though he's behind a great deal of music and melodies in armin's latest albums (seems armin is blackmailing him :D). 4.The number of vocalists on this album is higher than any i've seen in my life (about 9), not counting bonus tracks which are vocal!! like you it's a pop compilation. I think you'll agree with me that at this level it shouldn't be called an artist album any more just an album really. Now the review of the album : 1.(Mirage) is all about his brother's band. just an intro and an exactly similar outro by armin. good track nonetheless 2.(This Light Between Us), (Not Giving Up On Love) are good because of vocalists and their lyrics. also good music. 3.(Feels So Good), (Youtopia), (Drowning) and (Down To Love) are like a tracklist of commercial vocal tracks that represents the stupid and pop direction trance is heading to (thanks to armin). the album could do much better with these four removed. 4.(Virtual Friend) is a good vocal track with nice guitar. 4.I like (Coming Home) and (Orbion) though they look like his recent Gaia tracks with those female vocal but good and solid tracks. 5.But the most ridiculuos thing in the album is how armin couldn't have made two different basslines for (I Don’t Own You) and (Take A Moment) which are only distanced by one track. so he made them the same bassline with just a slight difference and it's very obvious and annoying when you hear the album. Plus, it's a very unconvenient bassline for (I Don’t Own You) which has the best melody of the album and indead of 2010. you 'll feel that armin ruined the melody completely and the track desperately needs a proper remix. but Josh Gabriel's track is good. 6.(These Silent Hearts) and (Minack) are my most dissapointments of this album. BT's vocal is nice but no good music and Ferry Corsten's track is just nonsence music. 7.(Full Focus) is just an average track. couldn't figure out how it was a single (nothing to be excited about). if you're looking for an artist album in 2010, i recommend (Gareth Emery - Northern Lights) which is my album of the year. Not all of it is trancey the way we knew it before but compared to mirage it's hardcore :D, and it's all done by Gareth Emery himself with only 2 collaborations. Instrumentals are more than vocals. He also used 3 unknown vocalists to trance scene which is something exciting. But as for armin's album: the result is that i can't wait for his upcoming album :D (which i reckon will be worse than what is already not good).

If you took my (math thing) seriously, then i don't know what to do except to clear what is already very clear! The point is:1.Armin didn't make an album as he said (after i thought he clearly promised a good move towards producing the genre i know; trance!!... the real genre not cheesy vocals)2.With all these extraordinary number of vocals (14), i don't know how armin is still categorizing his album as trance instead of (dance) or (electronic). How can you listen to (Feels So Good) and say it's trance!!6 years ago and before, a trance album (if 10 tracks) had usaually 9 instrumentals and just 1 vocal. Now look at the contrary
Truthcliff
Pointless reviews get pointless replies... But off course, your point about his "math" skills is so extremely relevant that it justifies another pointless review.
Reighbyra
I also forgot to mention that Armin is very bad at math, because according to his own saying: 'half of the album is going to be instrumentals', which lifted my hopes for the album very much (imagine had only 3 instrumental and lots of vocals). But my hopes was crushed when i saw the tracklist. The album has 16 tracks; 6 instrumentals and 10 vocals, so only 6 out of 16, and the bonus tracks have NO INSTRUMENTALS AT ALL.

when i wrote this review i didn't think i would be talking to a psychiatrist!!and i don't know if you take (drives me crazy) literally which is stupid tbh, you should read the review and reply to it, not talk to me like a saint in a fuckin church or change subjects.and (JEALOUSY)... GOD!!! do you think i'm a bedroom dj or something!and who the hell clicked (helpful) on your reply? seems he's the one that needs to see a doctor, you should help him instead.at least, i don't reply the moment i see in my mesaages (someone replied to you on discogs), maybe you have much spare time (unlike me) which makes you look more interested in a subject that is not very important. why don't you advise yourself instead of your pointless replies ?!
DrayLOVE
Of course i don't say the truth; everyone sees it from his point of view and his taste of music. That's my own review, that's all :DI'm just slagging him off because it drives me crazy how he's so popular considering the music he produces which is supposed to be trance, and all is because of stupid polls and people believing them and saying (yaaaa...he's no 1, he knows what he's doing)
Runemane
Sure and all U2 tracks are actually not by U2 but by Brian Eno. You obviously have no clue whatsoever how the music business works, what it takes to make a record and the influence the various roles involved have on the final product. And what's more, if you don't like Armin van Buuren, that's totally up to you, but it worries me a bit that you spent so much time on slagging him off and defending your uninformed and subjective arguments as if they constitute "the truth". That actually says more about you than about the artist in question.

1.Well that's because on top of the page, it says (Armin Van Buuren - Mirage) if you haven't noticed.2.Do you want me to make a whole review on all trance producers that gets coproduction on their releases.I promise you that everyone of these producers will soon get a review by me on discogs. Are you happy now? :D
Zymbl
I don't know if you read the Review good (which i think you ought to have done) or not. But is there any mentioning of tiesto? Or is my nickname (tiesto fan) or something? NO. The same critisism applies to him also as you said and i'm not a tiesto fan. I'm a Gareth Emery fan.

The perhaps biggest name in trance over the last couple of years, Armin van Buuren, has unfortunatly done it again. He has made another poor artist album. There is nothing new or exciting about this album. It has no red line, and it just doesn't feel like an album. It's more like a badly put together compilation of mediocre tracks. It's as if he has first made several individual club tracks, then just shortened them or made them fade out, instead of trying to make the tracks fit together as a whole, like a proper artist album. But of course, the album will sell good because Armin is such a big star in the trance scene.
Darkshaper
I don know about the album thing, but i can tell for sure that there is couple tracks that i really like, like "Coming Home", amazing tune! and yah, it's not pure trance like we use to in 1999-2002, and not like 2002-2005, but it's all because he trying to reach more & more people, that's it.if you ask me, i prefer the "Gaia" release's, much more impressive.
