Take Me To The Mardi Grass is famous because it is one of the most used samples of hiphop in the 80s. In those days I was desparate to find the original sample. Until (I believe in 86) the hiphop documentry "Big Fun In The Big Town" came out (you should check it out on youtube). In wich the master himself Grandmaster Flash revealed the name of the sample. It took me more than 10 years but I finally got the record.

BJ's second album is yet another inconsistent record, but it contains two of his greatest tracks, the gorgeously-done "You're As Right As Rain" and the awesome "Dream Journey."The former is the definitive version of the Stylistics track, but played in a different key, and just extremely well performed and produced. It is much better than the original. The emotion pours out of it.The latter is a great, powerful mid-70s fusion excursion.

Your comment about 'inconsistent' record shows the genius of this compilation of CTI players.. I don't disagree with your comment about which are the standouts..but I have my own set of standouts from this album as well.. no it's not Mardi gras..but that is a fabulous instrumental! - Making it quite the variable and great album. Something for everyone it seems.

Not to mention 'Farandole' which has a highly-underrated and lengthy funky drum break which, like Mardi Gras, works great for the b-boys.

Not forgetting `Take Me To The Mardi Gras` the beat and breakdown was used to great effect by grandmaster flash in the early hiphop days, legendary stuff! i`m sure mixmastermike used a snippet from "You're As Right As Rain" on his anti theft device lp.
