Key Lime Pie was recorded and mixed between February and July of 1989 with occasional time off for religious and national holidays; weddings; funerals; confirmations; bar mitzvahs; barbecues; endless games of a hopelessly complex form of Indian Poker which only the Arab and Ambassador clearly understood (perhaps that's why they ended up with most of our money) and of course those aimless Sundays in search of the perfect piece of key lime pie. On this record MORGAN "are you finished with that bake potato" FICHTER played violin and sang. When she wasn't barefoot she wore a pair of brown boots. VICTOR "my dad's a pharmacist" KRUMMENACHER played the bass and sang. His dad really is a pharmacist. The mysterious GREG LISHER played the lead guitar and sang. Greg wore a variety of shoes. Once he lost a shoe somewhere in the Mojave Desert (it fell out of the van). The shoe was black, size "9", and if anyone happens to find it, could they please send it to: Camper Van Beethoven, P.O. Box 1253, Santa Cruz, CA 95061. DAVID "I'm at Denny's" LOWERY sang, played guitar, harmonica and keyboards. He wore red hi-tops. CHRIS "I could use a cup of coffee" PEDERSEN sang, played drums and percussion. He usually wore a fetching pair of doc martens. Produced by DENNIS HERRING who always wore the same smelly, raggedy pair of overalls. Engineered and mixed CSABA "australian rules mixing" PETOCZ. Recorded at Capitol Recording Stuidios (2nds Pete Doell, Charlie Paakkari). OD's recorded at Dustbowl and engineered by Dennis. Mixed at Ameraycan Studios (2nds Mark Hermann, Shawna Stobie, Vince Zermeno). Mastered by Howie Weinberg at Masterdisc. Additional backing vocals: Davey Faragher, Danny Faragher, Mary O'Neil, Wally Sound. Strings, crazy avant-garde Gipsy and Indian style fiddling: Don V. Lax (S'anniamo spaccare un po'di culo, ragazzi!). Bitchin' Harmonica: Hammer Smith. Pedal Steel: Tim "SteelBone" Cook. Pump Organ, talking and stuff: Garth Hudson. PICTURES OF MATCHSTICK MEN published by Northen Music Company (ASCAP). All other songs published by Camper Van Beethoven Music Company (BMI). World-wide representation and catering: Home Office, 6715 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90028, Fax # being 213.462.8880, Jackson Haring (the Arab), David Snow (the Ambassador). Package design: Bruce Licher at Independent Project Press, Los Angeles. Photography: Andre Lansel. Physical Plant: Elba Gomez. ℗ & © 1989 Virgin Records America, Inc. - 9247 Alden Drive, Beverly Hills, CA. 90210. Manufactured and distributed by WEA through arrangement with Atlantic Records.
