Flamenco guitarists know Sabicas, the "Flamenco King" (1912-1990), as an exceptionally gifted innovator of the flamenco style. Even more generally known especially among Flamenco dancers is the name of the legendary Carmen Amaya (1913-1963) who appeared in every country of Latin America, Europe and North Africa. She received a warm ovation from Winston Churchill, and her command performance for President Franklin D. Roosevelt at the White House was one of the highlights of her career.
