this album needs a vinyl release. it deserves that much.

Here is yet another pretty Japanese singer with a breathy, sing song delivery via tinkly electronica. Can't wait, right? I have been disappointed time and time again by that formula. I'm happy to report that with Cokiyu it works! First of all, the production is first rate, her crystalline high register whisper is a nice counterpoint to the deep bass lines. Her quirky phrasing and skittering beats and meandering song constructions using ascending and descending minor chord constructions are soothing and ambient, and still rather memorable. This really is lovely stuff - highly recommended
