FLIDER
First copy had skipping problems on Five Years. Exchanged. Second copy was all good until Star on side two. Returned and the store had no other copies. I’m having dreadful luck with Bowie records.
Dainris
Very nice reissue. Competently mastered but does sound noticeably different from the other versions I have, the most obvious change is the bass guitar: in all of the other Ziggys you can hear the strings being plucked...this one, this one sounds like they’re being violently yanked off the guitar or being played with a garden spade instead of a pick (best example is during Suffragette City, gives the song a nice energetic boost that I really like). Gives the whole album a more raw/emotinal feel.Other reviews mention skipping on side B, I got lucky, got one that doesn’t have that problem
Nilabor
Sounds much better post-clean.Not a patch on an OP, but still a nice listenable pressing.
Washington
Finally got round to buying this. Listening to side 2 first off. No problems there. Sound is great. Great price for a lovely piece of history.
Weiehan
The sound on the record is pretty good and the gold is cool. However like others I've had issues with Star and Hang on to Yourself skipping. I contacted the seller and he was quick to send me a replacement however that had similar issues. This is a problem with the pressing of record and is of no fault of the seller. It's a really cool record for collecting but probably not the best for listening to due to the common skipping issues. If you can get your hands on a lucky one with no skipping than go for it. I do highly recommend it for collectors though and the seller couldn't have been more helpful. Great communication and speedy deliverery. The record arrived in perfect condition both times too.
Riavay
The music overall sounds wonderful, and side 1 is all round perfect. However, side 2, whilst still sounding good, has a huge problem skipping all the way through "Star" and a small part of "Hang onto yourself".
Shem
picked up mine today. Quite impressed with it. Had a UK first press not in a very good shape. So this copy is for day-to-day playing and the other one is for collecting.
Dream
Not a scratch on it, but side 2 still skips like crazy...
Ces
Strange thing, my copy doesn't mention "It Ain't Easy" on the sleeve (no title and lyrics). Am I the only one?
Stanober
That's normal, you may also notice the song length for Starman is completely off. These two errors on the inner sleeve were also present on the original version.
Vushura
Impeccable reissue, superb sound! (played on my good ol' Technics sound system and Ortofon cartridge).
Xtintisha
The sound and pressing quality is not as horrible as made out to be. I picked up a copy today, there are no warps, skips, pops, or any surface noise. However yes I do understand the mastering may not be the best on this copy, but as someone with nothing but an mp3 to compare it too, I'm happy!
Mr_Mix
This pressing uses the same AAA cut as this release (https://www.discogs.com/David-Bowie-The-Rise-And-Fall-Of-Ziggy-Stardust-And-The-Spiders-From-Mars/release/3642251), which is universally regarded. Perhaps you should check your system.
Micelhorav
Might not be the best pressing of this album, but it is quite good. Just a bit of surface noise and no skips in my copy. For 15€, I can't complain.
The Apotheoses of Lacspor
Bought these to add to the Bowie collection. For an addition, Cool but as far as sound quality it comes off quite compressed for a vinyl...a lot of pops and surface noise on Hunky. Ziggy I don't think sounds too bad. It does sound more of a digital remaster. And I think the treble coulda been better on Hunky. But for the collection, yes. I'll stick to listening to my original presses! Nothing has beat them yet. But I do think the BOWPROMO Sounds Awesome! Get That!
Hanelynai
This pressing uses the same AAA cut as this release (https://www.discogs.com/David-Bowie-The-Rise-And-Fall-Of-Ziggy-Stardust-And-The-Spiders-From-Mars/release/3642251), which is universally regarded. Perhaps you should check your system.
Ishnsius
hello! Haven´t been able to buy anything on vinyl from Bowie but Blackstar. For this album, which pressing should I look for? The one in black vinyl from Amazon any good?
Mullador
Sound is OK, but not awesome. A bit tight and dry.
Danial
ordered 2 copies from different locatoins and both have torn inner sleeves where the vinyl has cut through the bottom and the edging. Do wish these manufacturers would stop cheapskating and produce a decent quality inner as well as outer. Also the colours look quite bleached to me on outer cover. Finally there is a weird lip at the top of the inner sleeve and on one copy it is creased up adn the other fine.
Akir
Bought mine in Edinburgh last week for 15 pounds. Sounds fantastic to me on my system. A steal as far as I am concerned.
Uste
The "gold"is not uniform on the surface for my copy ☹
Flash_back
My B side also skips, I've managed to get it down to only one skip at about 40 seconds into "Star" but I've looked and looked and can't find any visual indications as to why it's skipping.I'm blaming small pieces of the crappy card sleeve. There's no reason that they couldn't have lined it with poly ethylene like the Hunky Dory release.
Gardataur
I have the same issue with my copy, where the gold material is bunched up, or wrinkled on one side. The B side of the LP also skips in a few places for no apparent reason.
Fast Lovebird
No skips, but surface noise all over the place, really disappointing.
AGAD
I'm confused because the link in the notes shows an LP that was supposedly an all analog remaster of this album and has the same matrix info as the album above. But the back of the album cover for this gold issue says digital remaster 2012. As with the recent string of Bowie reissues I think this is a digital remaster, the sound lacks true analog warmth and the vocals are too compressed. The bass and drums are given a lot of clarity and punch but upon closer listen sound a bit hollow. I actually don't think the reissue sounds that bad, serves as a nice clean quiet copy to me but sounds like it may lack some of the dynamics that would make it truly great. For $20 might as well grab a copy, vinyl purists would probably steer clear.
Ishnllador
very good sound and amazing gold vinyl for the 45th anniversary package
Xinetan
Got mine the other day, skips all over the place. Not sure if anyone else is having similar issues.
GAMER
Mine skipped during "Star" from the first playing too. With a good clean I have got it down to be only one skip, but it's so annoying for a new record.I can't see anything in the grooves either, but I'll have a good look with a macro lens and see what shows up.But the fact that multiple people have specified Star as the main skipping culprit track, it may actually be pressing issues.
Nidor
I got mine yesterday and side 1 plays perfectly but star is completely ruined because of skips.
Adorardana
Having a similar problem. There are a couple places where it gets stuck in a loop as if it were an old, scratched-up record. Disappointing.
Ziena
mine also has a pretty big skip during star and some surface noise
Negal
Mine has one skip during "star" and has had it since the first play. The rest of the record sounds clean for me though.
Yozshunris
I actually had the same problem with two copies of the standard black Parlophone repress :(
Pettalo
will not be available from online only retailers". ---> that's a lie.. Dodax sells it......
PC-rider
What about this record ? Sound quality ? Thank's
Agagamand
just did open mine and souding great to me, no skippings at all :)but will store it in another inner sleeve.. im not sure the one coming with is a good one..
Unereel
Like ssk13 noted, same lacquers as the 40th anniversary release (2011?) which is evidently cut from the original tapes. I heard it sounds fantastic.
VizoRRR
I thought it was great too... crystal, warm and well done
Jeyn
Sounds excellent. It's the same mastering as the 40th anniversary edition which seems to be the best possible re-mastering available.
