The Lips' cover of the David Bowie classic "Life On Mars" is in itself pretty classic. If you haven't heard their beautiful bare-bones approach to the song, do yourself a favor and find it (your methods may have to get less-than-legal...this is a TRUE rarity, and is unavailable on any other commercial release that I am aware of). Wayne's broken, fragile delivery triumphantly belts overtop of bar room piano for maximum effect. Truly lighters-out material.
You're describing the John Peel recording of the Lips doing "Life on Mars". The recording on this flexi is anything BUT bare bones! It's fully orchestrated, and Wayne's voice is drenched in fuzz... like his mic is being put through a Big Muff fuzz pedal.
