Malogamand
Glimpse's debut, RUNNER, kicks off with the African rhythmic tones of "Walk Tall," almost harking back to the very roots of house music itself. But then we catapult to mid-1990s Cologne for the dub- (and Janet Jackson!)-inflected techno of "If I Was Your Girl." And "Things to Do in Denver" takes us to sample-heavy Chicago -- three tracks, and we've already traversed the world of house music! But he doesn't stop there: "New Beginnings" is punctuated with Chinese-language snippets, while "Feel OK," with its piano chords (both forwards and reversed) comes from the land of pure groove. A hint of the blues drifts into "I Know I Show It," and the dub rhythm returns on "Enjoyable Employable," even if the track morphs far beyond it. "Thank You" is bright and shiny tech-house, and "Train in Austria" circles back to the beginning by bringing back the rhythmic tones -- Detroit by way of the Danube, I suppose. It's house as it was meant to be thumped.
