Tracks B5 to B7 were taken from a series of short texts called "Brother Barstow" ; track B2 was taken from "Peace, Love And Portugal?" .

Californian-born Ithaka was living in Portugal during the 1990's where this cd record was recorded. Except for guest appearences by local artists, the album is all in English. In a 1999 retrospective of Portuguese music by the national newspaper Publico, "Flowers And The Color Of Paint" was considered one of the most important "Portuguese" albums of the 1990s.

In 1995, the album was nominated for three Blitz Premios (Portuguese equivalent to the Grammy): "Best new artist", "Best male vocalist" and "Best album".

In 1998, director Antoine Fuqua used the song "Escape From The City Of Angels" in his film "The Replacement Killers".
