Notes
Thank you very much for picking up this record.
I commend your active curiosity and fine discernment.
“Beyond Infinity's Vortex” is a treasured artifact from my vanished youth. I included it here because I love it.
I seek its preservation and wider dissemination.
“Bright New Day” was originally recorded in March, 2000 in a rough demo recording. I thought it needed a more definitive recording of higher quality at a top studio.
Here it is.
“Highway 99” is inspired by Vanity Fare's “Hitchin' A Ride”
and early John Fogerty songs with CCR. Dreams of escape percolate within all of us who feel trapped by our jobs, routines, and obligations. This song is my romantic take on the life of a sunburnt vagrant tied to nothing but his own freedom.
“Somebody's Lying To Me” is one of several songs from my “Mendacity Song Cycle” which obsesses on the topic of deceit. “Mendacity Song Cycle” exists now only on scraps of paper in various file folders. It may one day be recorded in its entirety if time and money ever permit it.
“Magic Ship” is inspired by various songs from the 1960's whose theme is escape from a corrupt world via a ship or a magic bus or a magic carpet ride. These songs made such a strong impression on me that I felt compelled to create one of my own. Here it is.
One day you will be dead. One day I will be dead. One day
everyone we know will be dead. Regardless of that, the music on this record will still be extant, rotting the minds of the children of tomorrow. Isn't that great?
Happy Listening!

Bright New Day
Workin' hard all my life
Got nothin' to show
For all that bullshit
Stand in line, don't disobey
They got us caught
From cradle to grave
I've dreamed so long
Of freedom now
That bird flies high
Over my penitentiary
Someday soon gonna bust on out
Gonna run away to my land of freedom
It's gonna be a bright new day
Gonna gonna shine, shine, shine
Gonna shine down, down on me
Burnin' all my darkness away
Gonna sing and laugh so loud
Gonna run and wade in the water
Gonna lift my face to the sky
Gonna live my life and be free
Freedom now is just a word
That people speak
Without knowing the meaning
Waste our lives in empty toil
When all our roads
Lead on to the graveyard
Saw Screamin' Jay just yesterday
Now he is gone
He died there near Paris
Time runs fast, can't fool around
Got songs to sing
Before I sleep underground
Highway 99
Gonna hitch a ride
Get my ass on out of here
On Highway 99
Gonna tumble down
And dance with fate
Ignoring the traffic signs
O I'm wild and I'm strong
And my time belongs to me
O I'm wild and I'm strong
And I'm free
Got no home, got no job
Got no connections
So I'm riding on down the line
Sun will melt my face
On my vagrant sojourn
I keep running all the time
O I'm wild and I'm strong
And my time belongs to me
O I'm wild and I'm strong
And I'm free
I may be high, I could be low
But I still got a long, long way to go
And all my demons keep on chasing me
Down the road, down the road
I could be rich, I'm probably poor
And I'm banging on every bolted door
And all my demons keep on chasing me
Down the road, down the road
Though the sun descends
Behind the distant western hills
I never turn around
Though the road is rocky
I will never rest
'Til I'm sleeping underground
Somebody's Lying To Me
Somebody, somebody's lying to me
Lying to me night and day
Somebody, somebody's lying to me
Lying to me
(Repeat)
And I run through the world
With a rock in my hand
I go smashing down the liars
And I run through the world
With a torch in my hand
Like a little boy/girl starting fires
LIARS! LYING TO ME!
AAAAHHHH------
LIARS! LYING TO ME!
AAAAHHHH------
And I smash through this world
With my blood gushing out
And I scream and my head's on fire
And the nodules of pock
In the gelatin fronds
Cause the bullfrogs to expire!
Magic Ship
O damn this workaday
That sucks my life and time
Far, far away from me
Ah-----
O damn this gray machine
That reduces us to pawns
Who whore for the grubby green
Ah-----
O damn this world of fools
Who murder all good things
Bright and beautiful
Ah-----
I dream of open fields
I dream of laughing skies
I dream of a world of light
I must sail there before I die
O damn
These puny men
Who scheme and kill and lie
Goddamn, here they are again
Ah----
O damn
Those dreary ones
Whose tediums kill joy and life
And crush our fun
Ah----
O damn
Their power and lies
For their wealth and for their glory
It seems we must always die
Ah----
Sailing on my Magic Ship
Gonna sail on a magic trip, away
Gonna sail away from all the sorrow
Sailing on my Magic Ship
Gonna sail on a magic trip, away
Gonna drift away into tomorrow
O damn
The mindless mob
Which elevates malignant clowns
To unholy gods
Ah----
O damn
This world of fools
Who murder all good things
Bright and beautiful
Ah-----
