Hawk Flying
On his THE JOKER single, Lars Horntveth shows off why Jaga Jazzist are pretty awesome. The track itself merges a delicate clarinet line amongst plucky electronics with a skittering (but not crazed) rhythm beneath it all, and a string section comes in halfway to drive the point home. Mental Overdrive imposes in a staticky, martial beat, and long, sustained tones that made me wonder if I hadn't already skipped to the Four Tet mix. But Four Tet is still Four Tet, and their mix invites a bit more chaos into the rhythm. Thanks for setting me straight (so to speak)!
