Getaianne
Probably the last recording by vibraphonist, who was in his nineties and in ill health, so he is a shadow of his former self on stage, though he gamely tries to execute the performances he became known for well into his eighties. His big band shines, as do the Gerald Wiggins Trio, Sweets Edison and Ernie Andrews (with an assist from Teddy Edwards). One other gripe is the lack of proofreading in the booklet. A number of names are misspelled, one is incomplete and the credits for one brass instrument list "trumbone." Comedian Steve Allen's introduction of Lionel Hampton makes fun of his slow entrance to the stage (likely following a stroke), one of the rare times where Allen wasn't funny.
