allegro
This album was a bit of a revelation, back when chill wasn’t the possession of marketing companies and a licensing potential for bargain bin fodder. It slowly builds up through repeated motifs and melody while building to its crescendo. If it were classical music, it would be revered as a symphony magnifique, instead its a chill out album on Hooj. Well worth a listen. Standout track is the penultimate Into Deep where things eventually collapse, before the redundant Westside. Not as redundant as the remixes, Laidback Luke’s is nice but sounds unlike the source and Medway’s likewise. Train of Thought is a blinder on any album.
The Sinners from Mitar
I would definitely take issue with the half baked notion of Westside being redundant. In this album everything flows into each other, and each track is just as stunning without letting up any quality.

With INTO THE DEEP, L.S.G. breaks into the mainstream, with seminal 'big room' UK label Hooj Choons. Even as "Concatenation" starts off on an ambient tip, it soon wanders into a slow, melodic rhythm, before edging into the Spanish spoken word of "No Causalidad" and the calm breaks of "Give Me Your Hand." "El Tiburon" continues this dreamy procession, though with heavier percussion. As a whole, this album seems to stray far from L.S.G.'s usual hard trance maneuvers, even if "Quick Star" threatens to go in that direction. "I'm Not Existing" starts out with some angular melodies with quasi-tribal rhythms before the vocals come into and establish a more traditional downtempo song pattern, "Jillanity" throbs with restrained energy, and "Phorus" helps some of that tension melt away. "Westside" takes out the album with a shuffling, near-trance experience, still on the chill side of things. It wouldn't take much to turn these tracks into club burners, and that's what Lieb does on the second disc, adding steady, solid beats to the bright "I'm Not Existing," while "Into Deep" gets two appropriately deep mixes. But it's the jittery, ticking "Jillanity" that stands out more, with its pent-up energy. Laidback Luke goes house (with a hint of disco) in his version of "Quick Star," while Medway retains the deep of "Into Deep" and lowers it even more with his tech-house mix. Thomas Krome speeds up "I'm Not Existing," though the results are slightly lackluster. "Train of Thought," which originally appeared on THE BLACK ALBUM, helps close out this album, and it's a good reminder of what Lieb can get up to when he blends the mellow and the trance together.

This album is definitely worth listening to, if anything for the dreamy layers of sound & mystical Spanish quotes overlaid with some real heart throbbing moments of bass & pads,is bound to keep the Ibiza chill-mongers happy. That said, Oliver Lieb is one of the Trance guru's of late & has delivered (what I think) a mesmerizing chill album. It all flows so well & never loses it's feeling & 'nearly' tinkers into the 'underground' sounds of chill, with crunchy beats & so on, Therefore, giving the aesthetic a boost to those who wouldn't think twice about listening to it. Only quirk(of sorts!): You will be wishing yourself by a beach whilst on that packed train on a wet Monday morning with this on..Oh well..Utopia will have to do. P.S. I don't rate the dance mixes myself on the bonus disc.

I agree with Mr Darko, the first CD is top notch - I bought this today in a charity shop thinking it would be some trance noggins, instead I've been really impressed by the first CD of electronic chilled downtempo vibes... right up my strasse! I probably won't check out the second disc though sadly.

1st cd is chilling, willing and mind fulling melodies with distinctive Lieb rhythms. 2nd cd is packed with more banging versions of the songs. Good allarounder
