Trivia fact 1:- to date, "Gambler" remains the last single to be entirely self-written by Madonna;
Trivia fact 2:- apart from the 'Virgin Tour' in 1985, Madonna has steadfastly refused to perform this song, meaning it is her only hit never to have been performed outside the US.

When this was first released, I was desperate to get the 12 inch version because it was only released as a 7 inch single in Australia. I searched and searched for ages. Many months later I finally found this particular vinyl 12 inch pressing in an import record store in the city. I was very excited to get my hands on it as import records were really difficult to track down in Australia in the early 80s. Once I played it, I was very surprised to find that the record only featured the single version of the song. I could never understand why the record company would go to the trouble of pressing a single version on a large 12" vinyl format if it wasn't even extended, it felt like a waste of space. Of course, now I know why.... For ages I thought an extended mix of Gambler simply didn't exist but I did end up finding the original 1985 extended version many years later on a UK 12" format and was very impressed with the mix. A true Madonna rarity!
