Notes
During the employee campaign of BASF's 150 year anniversary "Sounds for 150", more than 1,200 different sounds were recorded by BASF employees in 166 cities and 54 countries. Composer Michael Nyman, was inspired by these sounds in composing his orchestral work for BASF. Water became the composition's leitmotif, as many of the sounds recorded are related to water, and in addition to the fact that the element plays a significant role in the chemical industry. For "Symphony No. 8: Water Dances", Michael Nyman also used motifs he had developed at an earlier point in time. The premiere was performed during the anniversary event in Ludwigshafen, Germany on April 23, 2015.
In addition to Michael Nyman's composition, the CD also contains eight remixes by Richard Dorfmeister. In each of his remixes, he uses ten sounds recorded by the BASF employees. For example, Richard Dorfmeister used the sound of a test alarm at the Cengkareng site in Jakarta, the demolition of the Ludwigshafen high-rise building and the chirping of a mockingbird that built its nest near the urethane compounding plant in Clemson, South Carolina.
The CD comes with 10 page booklet with text written in English and German.
