Review of the musical content of the Columbia record set c96, Morton Gould concert: 1 out of 4 stars. Know that this review is coming from the perspective of a big fan of the 1940s 78 RPM era of Andre kostelanetz on Columbia, David Rose on RCA Victor, and Paul Weston on Capitol, as well as big band swing music, and 1940s movies. The aforementioned artists did a fine job of rendering on 78 RPM disc, the kind of incidental background music you would frequently hear in the popular movies of the 1940s. I had previously gotten the Morton Gould "After Dark" Columbia 12-inch 78 RPM set, really enjoyed it, and was hoping for more of the same. Not here. Of the six sides, I could only say I enjoyed one, Where or When. The rest sounded to me like a poorly-executed classical pops concert. Perhaps a classical pops music listener would have enjoyed the set more, but if you're looking for 1940s movie style incidental music, look elsewhere.
