Notes

Recorded at Brilliant Studio, Hyde Street Studios, Coast Recorders, and Shotwell Bomb Factory, San Francisco; Mills College Concert Hall, Oakland.
Mixed at Soundcastle, Silverlake, CA; and Different Fur, San Francisco.Limited Edition of 1000 copies world wide.
The LP is housed in a black and white printed inner sleeve with artwork, lyrics and album credits. The 7" comes in a generic white paper sleeve.
The Secret Song is hidden after track A3a.
Side D consists of one track of two movements.

Many owners of this version report very poor sound, there is no runout area on Side B indicating that the playing surface has been maximised which is the probable reason for the reportedly poor sound quality.

As other people have noted, it sounds pretty bad. Actually, I got an original pressing when it first came out and it sounded just as terrible. Honestly there is just too much music on each side plus the hidden track plus all the intense volume changes equals this is always going to sound pretty bad on vinyl unless they do a major remix / remaster and spread it out over two LPs. On the other hand it's a Mr. Bungle album. Just pretend the noise is how it's supposed to sound. I've had 2 different crappy pressings and am not going to bother getting another.

Legendary Experimental Major Label release. Still holds it's weight today, but needs to be remastered. The Plain Release both green vinyl and black 180grm release SUCKS. The Sound is so WEEK that you can crank up the volume and still be barely able to hear it no matter how good your needles are. Overall if your a beginner collecting vinyl this is not too bad for the price. But Waste of money if your a True Fan.
Zonama
Agreed. Mobile Fidelity or Simply Vinyl even.

It has a similar issue, not the same. It would have to be mastered low, but not as low as the Plain Recordings verions, the reason being the high points of the album are incredibly high (not at all as effective on the plain release). The CD is also recorded low for the same effect (volume).
Lynnak
The mastering had to be low in order for some of the albums later flourishes into super loud noise to take effect. The Warner pressing is superior to the Plain Recordings repress, two reasons for this could be the coloured vinyl and the fact that the Plain Recordings version encroached even further towards the centre of the vinyl which affects sound adversely on later tracks on each side. The plain Recordings version is inferior to both the London/Slash LP and the Warner release. The plain Recordings version doesn't just suffer with respect to "volume/loudness", the overall recording doesn't sound as deep or dynamic when compared to the Warner pressing. This record is in desperate need of a overhaul by a competent company such as Mobile Fidelity.
Wyameluna
No, he's absolutely right. Both this and the S/T were mastered at low audio levels so that they could fit all this music on each side. The sound is not too far above the sound floor inherent in vinyl. Both sides have around 30 minutes of music on them, the second side is well over that! That's an absurd amount of music to cram on each side of a vinyl disc! If this were a double LP, it wouldn't have to be mastered this way. It should be noted that the original Warner Bros. print has the same issue. One thing the green vinyl release has going for it is it contains early SC3 material, which is only available with either this reprint or the vastly overpriced on eBay Warner Bros. print.

a knee jerk reaction to the loudness wars ? lol
