Wow!

I've never been a particularly rabid fan of OMD but I've had a great fondness for many of their singles. Their "Best Of" collection was the their most played album in my collection, until "Sugar Tax", and it's been individual tracks that caught my attention rater than whole albums. Then I heard about "History Of Modern" and was impressed when I heard it. It's always great to hear when a reunited line-up manages to capture their former magic. Then they release this…

Wow!

Somehow this album transcends every prior OMD album for me! For me, this is the dream that OMD should have been right at the start - perfectly electronic, mechanical and human, cold and warm. It's like they took all the best elements of my favorite OMD songs and created an album just for me. From the Kraftwerk influences of "Metroland" to the beautiful "Stay With Me", which reminds me somewhat of "Souvenir" for some reason, this album is filled with wonderful electronic masterpieces that somehow manage to perfectly bring their early sound up to date and more.

I have to admit that my favorite album of recent years is "Instead" by Onetwo, and clearly bringing that updated embracing of modern electronic music back into OMD has, I think, benefitted the sound as it's managed to embrace old, new, and, hopefully, future fans in a way that "History Of Modern" only hinted at.

Nicely done, OMD, nicely done.
