Ralf Hildenbeutel produced some great electronic music (ambient and trance) during its peak back in the 90s. But a lot has changed in electronic music since the turn of the century, and many who made good music in the mid 90s returned a decade later with junk, or failed to innovate. The electronic music market in general, in every genre, is full to the brim of uninspired junk these days, and many once-good artists have seemingly lost their way. This is the backdrop.

Wunderland came to me as a great surprise and has really been an enormous breath of fresh air. To a landscape saturated in monotonous music that's become devoid of soul and lost its magic, Wunderland, living up to its name, brings a super-abundance of both. Ralf Hildenbeutel was clearly able to innovate and talented enough to create something unique and rarified in a way that the vast majority of others involved in electronic music have not.

The undiscriminating masses may overlook this or not care for it, but for me, I'd happily delete entire labels worth of their boring junk and this is one that I will treasure.
