The latest from the New Jersey hotbed is this soulfully sung Richard F production. The older readers amongst us might well recognise Ms P’s name as one of the premier session singers in the ‘80s working with the likes of Quincy Jones and Aretha Franklin, and most famously, as one of Luther Vandross’ backing singers. The girl ain’t lost it (although I can’t help thinking she does sound a tad like Lulu!) and with Grey’s production savvy the combination is an impressive one. Rumbling funky bass blends with organ-laced disco-grooves to create a simple, yet memorable backbone for Paulette to wrap her vocal charms around. Those not into full blown song with champion the equally inventive Big Green Dub with sparser murmurings and altogether far more funkier backdrop.
