Artaud a écrit ce texte suite à ses internements en psychiatrie durant lesquels il a subi une série d'électrochocs. J'interprête ce texte comme une déclaration de guerre aux institutions telles la société qui nous rendent aliénés au sens du mot latin "alienus", c'est à dire étrangers, dépossédés de notre propre libre arbitre. La folie n'est qu'un mot inventé par celui qui gouverne afin d'éradiquer tout sentiment de révolte. Il faut, je crois, entretenir cette folie intérieure car elle est symbole de création et d'émancipation du moi sur le corps physique.

Artaud wrote this text after nearly 10 years of psychiatric internment during which he went through electroshock. I do interpret this text as a declaration of war against institutions like society which make us alienated in the sense of the latin word "Alienus", strangers, dispossessed of our own free will. Madness is just a word invented by those who govern us in order to eradicate any feelings of revolt. We have, I believe, to maintain this inner madness because it is the key to creation and emancipation of the self on the physical body.
