Notes
Produced by Headquarters, Third United States Army
It was during the early stages of the Korean War that the present concept of soldier shows was born. Because of extremely difficult combat conditions in Korea, travel by civilian entertainers was limited. On the other hand, live entertainment was eagerly sought by the troops of all services as an essential morale booster. These two factors combined to generate the development of soldier shows of superior quality. In order to do the job, these units had to be completely self-contained, and capable of performing under the most adverse circumstances while concurrently maintaining professional stage presence and soldierly conduct.
The need and demand for such soldier shows is as strong today as it was 15 years ago. "Holiday in Paris" is the fifth of such soldier shows presented by the Third United States Army. The show is composed of 19 enlisted men and five enlisted women from the Special Services Division. The unit toured the Southeastern United States from May 1965 to July 1965. It also performed for a Special Services Clinic at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana, and before leaders of all the major colleges in the South at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. "Holiday in Paris" was the featured attraction at the Southeastern Fair in Atlanta, Georgia, during October 1965.
"Holiday in Paris" will conduct the listener on a fascinating trip through the colorful streets of Paris. The performers capture the magic of Paris through its music from the beautiful "I Love Paris" to rollicking selections from "Irma La Douce."
The entertainers of Paris are varied and exciting, from the Apache Dancers to the Can-Can Girls. Meet them all when the Third United States Army Soldier Shows introduces you to a "Holiday in Paris!"
