SKY OF AVALON is the name of U.J.R.’s most mystical, most encompassing artistic concept. Central to the idea of S.O.A. is an essentially spiritual as well as metaphysical framework which is built around a storyline called “SOLDIERS OF GRACE”.

Apart from distinct Arthurian overtones, the main idea is centred around the ongoing search for the “Holy Grail Of Conscience”.

The main protagonists of the story are an ancient race of chosen ones from various regions of outer space - they are known as “The Knights Of The Deep”. "Destiny" has decided to send some of the knights to Planet Earth in order to help guide its inhabitants and try to prevent their self-destruction. In order to accomplish this mission the knights have to partake in the human experience with all its trials and tribulations, because the law of the Universe would not allow any other form of intervention. This quest, which leads them through many different timeframes and incarnations, must eventually lead them to find the Grail of Conscience and to help piece it together again - if they fail, Mankind will be doomed...

The musical core of Sky Of Avalon is represented by the cycle of SYMPHONIC LEGENDS. This genre was created by Uli Jon Roth and is a very novel concept in the history of music. Essentially symphonic at heart, each of the Symphonic Legends is at the same time a symphony, but one with a difference;
U.J.R. merges his favourite musical forms into a new “super-form.” In classical music there are usually rather strict demarcation lines between various forms and genres; e.g.: there are symphonies. concertos, operas, oratorios, songs, chamber music and other variations. Between these there is usually very little crossing over. Uli has taken the revolutionary step to freely melt all these elements down and reassemble them in a distinctly new manner with very exciting and inspiring results.

The Symphonic Legends are at the same time Symphonies, Concertos, Operas and Oratorios, as well as platforms for Song. Extreme lyricism and romantic melodies are side by side with more purely classical ones as well as those born out of rock. Flashes of Sky Guitar virtuosity and of the Sky Orchestra are side by side with moments of magical tranquillity.

This music is also extremely visual by nature and emotionally touching. Whenever the visual aspect is pointed out to him, Uli always answers that he can see the music like a movie in cinemascope in his mind when writing it.
