The Hilltones - Grandmas In The Cellar Mp3

This group is believed to be out of Princeton University & was a student vocal group with guitar accompaniment. The entire group is shirtless on the cover, which seems to have been a theme for this group, as we've seen one other LP by The Hilltones where they're all shirtless on a yacht. This is a great Student Project Record record with a few dark folk moments, including an instrumental dissonant hippie folk jam called "Guitar Duet" (actually written by 2 of the group's guitarists), and their version of "Istanbul" is done in a minor key, and has cool layered guitars driving the song along. There's odd sounding percussion as well, and the song "Mermaid" is a singer/songwriter Americana Roots folk song with just one singer, guitarist and someone doing what they call "Hambone" Percussion & then there's the very odd fun tune "Persian Kitten" and "Sunshine Girl" is kind-of a Jug Band song with what songs like kazoo.

In the dead wax (in between the grooves of the record and the labels) is scrawled "Many Thanks To Queen + Floyd" which are obvious references to the rock groups Queen and Pink Floyd that the group must've been influenced by (and fans of) with this being 1978 and all . . .
