Notes
The Bossa Nova Story - as played and sung out in this 3-CD collection, is the convergence of four disparately yet deeply talented individuals: Antonio Carlos Jobim, the supreme melodist; João Gilberto, Jobim's greatest instrumental interpreter; Astrud Gilberto, João's wife, whose singing made both men known outside Brazil; and Stan Getz, whose playing made them all welcome in the jazz world.
In shifting configurations over the course of these tracks, these four souls shape sound sensuously. The insinuating rhythms and subtle harmonies of bossa nova, it's clear now, belong with the great music of this century.
