Notes

'There are many different angles to 'Our Sound' but a scene that encompasses many styles can be confused by it's identity. Whatever you want to call it; Dubstep, Breaks, Grime, all have their place here, but neither definition explains this music in its entirity. Reflecting inner-city chaos and the paranoia instilled within it this LP provides a snapshot of the UK Underground scenes' most forward thinking artists. This is a genre nobody can pin down and no one can pigeon-hole, igniting dancefloors and opening peoples minds simultaneously this is the music that has no name: this is 'Our Sound'.

Absolutely awesome release with a few hidden gems but let down by not the best mastering. The second track on each side suffers from quite bad inner groove distortion

Have to say the above reveiw is not helpfull to say the least. i was given this album as a present, have played it many times and i feel its one of the few breakbeat albums that i know of that i can stick many repeat listenings, yes maybe a lot of the material is'nt the 'biggest track of the moment' but no harm i think, a nice, interesting, varied collection of music, and i think the fact that so many members have this on their wantlist speaks for itself.

totally. homeboy is tripping. there's a few jams on this one.

As much as I love and respect dubstep/grime or whatever you want to call it, I don't think this release is a good introduction to the true potential of the scene. I listened to this in the record shop and it just didn't gel with me at all. I'd much rather save my pennies and get 2 singles of the highest quality rather than an album full of what I would call below par offerings from a selection of the scenes brightest producers. What you have on this LP is a selection of breakbeat tracks that sound like slowed down drum n bass with little emphasis on experimentation; which I would consider to be a key component on 9/10 dubstep releases that I have bought in the last 2 years. With the likes of Vex'd, Search & Destroy and DJ Distance, to name but a few who feature on this compilation, it seems criminal that the feeling I have when I listen to this is the same feeling I get when I nod off at the same lumbering efforts that come out of break stables like Botchit & Scarper - yes it's heavy bass and choppy breaks, but it's stale and directionless. Whereas when I listen to Distance's thundering half-time behemoth 'Nomad' on Hot Flush, or the gun saw mechanics of 'Pop Pop' by Vex'd or the squelchy bass assault of 'Desperate Measures' by Search & Destroy on Storming Productions, I immediately think "fresh", "innovative" or "fuck me!". Hopefully those who have bought this will go onto buy more from this scene regardless of the mediocre tunes on this release, because you'd be mad not to.
