From the liner notes in the booklet:
"There probably isn't a better "old school" band for today's rappers to look back on with pride than the 70's supergroup War... The songs included in this set are but a fraction of the many that have utilized War hooks, horns lines, grooves, and / or entire War songs".

This appears to be a later CD version of the vinyl compilation Rap War Promo, also on Avenue Records, although some tracks have been replaced by others.
